The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed significant additional financial support for millions of benefit claimants across the United Kingdom, with some households set to receive an extra £371 annually through increased Personal Independence Payment (PIP) rates.
Substantial Boost for Disability Support
From April 6, 2026, PIP payments will rise by a total of 3.8 per cent, providing crucial financial assistance to individuals with additional care or mobility requirements due to disability or long-term health conditions. This increase represents a meaningful uplift in support during ongoing economic challenges.
Current Payment Structure
Presently, PIP weekly payments range from £29.20 to £187.45, with awards typically distributed every four weeks. This results in payment periods worth between £116.80 and £749.80 for recipients.
Those receiving the highest awards currently earn approximately £9,747 per year. When the new financial year commences in April, this annual amount will increase to around £10,119 – representing a rise of just over £371.
Detailed Rate Increases
The specific increases across different PIP components from April 6, 2026, are as follows:
- Daily Living Component
- Enhanced rate: £114.60 (rising from £110.40)
- Standard rate: £76.70 (rising from £73.90)
- Mobility Component
- Enhanced rate: £80.00 (rising from £77.05)
- Standard rate: £30.30 (rising from £29.20)
Recipients of the lowest award (standard mobility component only) will see an annual increase of £57.20, ensuring even those with minimal awards receive additional support.
Eight Possible Payment Combinations
From April 2026, there will be eight distinct possible PIP award combinations:
- Standard daily living only – £76.70 per week, £306.80 per pay period
- Enhanced daily living only – £114.60 per week, £458.40 per pay period
- Standard mobility only – £30.30 per week, £121.20 per pay period
- Enhanced mobility only – £80.00 per week, £320.00 per pay period
- Standard daily living and standard mobility – £107 per week, £428 per pay period
- Enhanced daily living and enhanced mobility – £194.60 per week, £778.40 per pay period
- Standard daily living and enhanced mobility – £156.70 per week, £626.80 per pay period
- Enhanced daily living and standard mobility – £144.90 per week, £579.60 per pay period
