Jesy Nelson Breaks Silence on 'Traumatic' Split from Fiancé Zion Foster

Former Little Mix star Jesy Nelson has publicly addressed the heartbreaking reasons behind her separation from fiancé Zion Foster, just four months after their engagement. The 34-year-old singer revealed that their split followed the devastating diagnosis of their nine-month-old twin daughters with a rare genetic condition.

Heartbreaking Diagnosis Impacts Relationship

In a candid new interview, Nelson explained how doctors informed her and Foster that their twin girls, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, are living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1. This condition causes progressive muscle weakness and wastage, presenting significant challenges for the young family.

The pop star told the Daily Mail: "We have been through such a traumatic experience and for us, our girls are our main priority and our main focus. We want to give them the most positive, happy and uplifting time and energy and because we have both been through such a traumatic experience, the energy wasn't right between us, which is understandable."

Commitment to Co-Parenting Remains Strong

Despite ending their four-year relationship, Nelson emphasised their continued commitment to parenting their daughters together. She stated: "We are still friends and we are still united in co-parenting our daughters, they are our main focus, that's all we can do, be the best possible parents we can right now."

The separation marks another difficult chapter for the couple, who have faced multiple challenges since becoming parents. Nelson previously experienced a complicated pregnancy diagnosed with Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), a life-threatening condition where both babies share the same placenta.

Difficult Journey to Motherhood

The twins were born prematurely via emergency caesarean section at 31 weeks and five days in May 2025, spending four weeks in neonatal intensive care before going home. Just six months later, the family received the SMA Type 1 diagnosis.

Nelson expressed frustration that doctors hadn't identified the condition earlier, admitting she felt "sad" and "angry" that earlier intervention might have improved her daughters' muscle development.

Focusing on the Present

The singer is now taking each day as it comes, explaining: "I am taking each day as it comes because I feel like right now, especially with the girls' diagnosis, it's all I can really do. If I try to look too far into the future, I will drive myself crazy. The girls are doing really well and they're happy, that's all I can really ask for."

Nelson's openness about her personal struggles follows her departure from Little Mix and her journey through motherhood, which she has documented in recent projects including a new documentary about life after the chart-topping girl group.
