A drug dealer from the Midlands has been sentenced to prison after officers uncovered evidence including an empty Kinder Surprise container during a street stop. Douglas Cox, 56, from Rugeley, was handed a five-year-and-ten-month sentence at Stafford Crown Court on June 9, 2026, after admitting to being concerned in the supply of heroin.
Police stop leads to discovery
In December 2025, officers from Staffordshire Police's major and organised crime proactive team stopped and searched Cox on Tom Smith Way in Rugeley. During the search, they discovered an empty Kinder Surprise container, £395 in cash, three wraps of heroin, and a mobile phone. Scales were later seized from an address in the town.
Court proceedings
Cox pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced accordingly. The court heard that the items found were consistent with drug dealing activities. The Kinder Surprise container, typically associated with children's toys, was used as packaging for the illicit substances.
Police appeal for information
Staffordshire Police have urged the public to report suspicious behavior in their areas by calling 101. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. The force emphasized the importance of community cooperation in tackling drug-related crime.
