A Moseley man has been ordered to pay £225 after police caught him with a cannabis joint. Arraz Mzori, 22, of Springfield Road, was approached by officers on April 16 due to the strong smell of cannabis emanating from him. He dropped the drugs on the floor and remarked, “Come on, it’s just a spliff,” when questioned.
Court Appearance
Mzori admitted possession of a class B drug at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, June 9. He was fined £100 and ordered to pay a £40 victim surcharge and £85 in prosecution costs, totaling £225.
Police Evidence
Prosecutor Ruman Dhami told the court: “Officers noted he was holding three buds of cannabis in his hand which he proceeded to discard to the floor.” Police ruled out a caution due to his previous lack of engagement with authorities.
Mzori had committed another identical offence in the same month. Representing himself, he told magistrates: “I’m really sorry, I’m really trying my best to stop.”
Support Offered
Magistrates advised Mzori to contact the Change Grow Live charity for help with his drug abuse. The case highlights the ongoing issue of cannabis possession in Birmingham and the legal consequences for offenders.
