Mum-to-be killed in crash: 'lost two lives and two futures'

The family of a Birmingham mum-to-be who died in a car crash have spoken of losing 'two lives and two futures'. Heather Allen, 25, was travelling in a car that hit a tree in Nuneaton last September. She was 23 weeks pregnant with a baby girl named Blossom, who could not be saved.

Memorial Event Planned

Friends and relatives will mark what would have been Heather's 26th birthday on Friday, June 19, with a memorial night at The Station Inn pub in Stechford from 5pm. Her sister Myrtle spoke about the event and the pain of the first birthday without Heather.

'Instead of buying cards and presents and watching her blow out her candles, we are visiting her memory and trying to find a way to live with a heartbreak none of us imagined we would face,' Myrtle said.

A Life Cut Short

'At just 25, Heather had her life ahead of her. She was excitedly preparing to become a mum, and with her we also lost her precious baby. In a single moment, two lives, two futures and so many dreams were taken away from our family. There are no words to explain the pain of losing a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a friend and an unborn baby all at once.'

'There are no words for the empty chair at family gatherings, the messages that will never be replied to, or the silence where Heather's laughter should be. There are no words for knowing we will never see her hold her baby, hear her say 'mum', celebrate another birthday with her or watch her grow old.'

Pain of a Birthday

'Birthdays are supposed to be filled with happiness, but this birthday brings a different kind of pain. Heather should be here turning 26. She should be planning her future and preparing for motherhood. Instead, all we have are photographs, memories and a love that death could never take away.'

'People often say time heals, but for those who love Heather, time has only taught us how to carry the grief. Not a single day passes when she and her baby are not in our thoughts. We miss them in ways that words could never fully express.'

'Friday will be filled with tears, hugs and memories. We will laugh at the stories Heather would want us to tell, and we will cry because we would give anything to have just one more moment with her. Although our hearts were broken the day we lost her, our love for Heather and her baby will last forever.'

'Heaven gained two angels, but our family lost a daughter, a sister, and a baby who were loved beyond measure and missed beyond words. Forever 25. Forever loved. Forever our Heather.'
