Lode Heath School in Solihull has issued a strong statement after students were subjected to racist and hateful comments online. The school said it was 'appalled' by the reaction to a social media post celebrating the 2026 Prom King and Queen.
School Responds to Hateful Comments
The academy on Lode Lane posted pictures of the students on social media, but the post attracted racist and ignorant comments. Lode Heath quickly deleted the comments and issued a message stating that 'racism has no place in our school or community'.
In a statement on social media, the school said: 'Racism will never win. Following our post celebrating our Prom King and Queen 2026, we were appalled by the racist, hateful and ignorant comments directed towards two children simply celebrating a special moment, having been chosen by their peers.'
Community Support Praised
The school praised the actions of those who stood up against the comments and refused to be bystanders. The statement continued: 'We want to thank our students, families, the wider Lode Heath community and members of our local community who refused to be bystanders. You recognised racism and division for what it was, challenged it and stood up for what is right.'
Lode Heath encouraged students to be 'upstanders' – to speak out against discrimination, support others and challenge injustice. The school added: 'Over the past few days, our community has shown exactly what that means. To everyone who stood up, spoke out and showed kindness and solidarity: thank you. Racism has no place in our school or our community. We are stronger together.'
Impact on Students
The incident has highlighted the ongoing issue of online racism targeting young people. The school's response has been widely supported by the local community, with many praising the school for taking a firm stance against hate speech.
Lode Heath School has not disclosed whether any further action will be taken against those who posted the comments, but the school's message is clear: racism will not be tolerated.
