Charity Sleep Out in Liverpool to Support Homeless Veterans
Liverpool Sleep Out Raises Funds for Homeless Veterans

The Block Armed Forces Foundation is organising a charity sleep out in Liverpool to highlight homelessness and the persistent difficulties faced by military service leavers across the United Kingdom. The event will take place on Friday, May 15, at St Luke’s Church, commonly referred to as the Bombed Out Church, providing an iconic and symbolic venue.

Event Details and Purpose

The gathering will unite veterans, volunteers, local organisations, and members of the public for an evening dedicated to raising awareness about the realities many former service personnel encounter after leaving the Armed Forces. Participants will spend the night outdoors in solidarity with those experiencing homelessness, while also raising crucial funds and awareness for support services aimed at assisting veterans in crisis.

The Issue of Veteran Homelessness

Homelessness among ex-service personnel remains a significant concern, with many veterans struggling to transition to civilian life. These challenges often include mental health issues, financial difficulties, social isolation, and a lack of stable housing. The Block Armed Forces Foundation is committed to providing practical support, advocacy, and community outreach to prevent veterans from falling through the cracks.

Colin Eastaway, the charity’s founder who served in Iraq and Afghanistan with the Parachute Regiment, emphasised the deeper meaning of the event. He stated: “This sleep out is about more than one night outdoors. It’s about starting conversations, bringing good people together, raising awareness, and showing support for the men and women who have served our country and are now facing some of the hardest battles of their lives.”

Symbolic Venue and Community Involvement

The historic Bombed Out Church, with its resilient and poignant atmosphere, serves as a powerful backdrop for the fundraiser, symbolising endurance, remembrance, and community unity. Members of the public are encouraged to attend, support the event, donate, or participate in fundraising activities. The evening will also offer opportunities to learn more about the issues affecting veterans and the support networks available within the community.

Those wishing to contribute can donate to the charity to help veterans. For further information about the foundation’s work at its base on Walton Road, or to discover how to get involved, visit their website or follow The Block on Facebook.
