Loughborough Scouts Urgently Need 50+ Volunteers for Record Youth Demand
Loughborough Scouts Issue Urgent Call for Volunteers

The 1st Loughborough Scout Group has launched an urgent appeal for local volunteers, as a surge in young people wanting to join has created record demand for adult support. Based at Fearon Hall on Rectory Road, the group is calling on enthusiastic residents to help guide the next generation of explorers and community leaders.

Frontline Adventure and Behind-the-Scenes Roles Available

The group needs additional volunteers to work directly with its three main sections: Beavers (aged 6-8), Cubs (aged 8-10), and Scouts (aged 10-14). With over 250 diverse activities on offer—from pioneering and water sports to emergency aid and cooking—there are plenty of ways to get involved.

Beyond frontline leadership, the charity also seeks support with essential background tasks. Opportunities exist for those interested in administration, IT, fundraising, or serving as a trustee to help manage the group's legal and financial responsibilities.

Rewarding Experience for Volunteers and Young People Alike

Richard Thorpe, the group's lead volunteer, emphasised that the weekly sessions are designed to be as rewarding for adults as they are for the children. "While the focus is firmly on fun and adventure," he noted, "the ultimate goal is helping young people build the confidence and values they need to succeed in adulthood."

Current volunteer Abena shared her positive experience: "Volunteering with Scouts is a fantastic opportunity to help young people learn and develop skills while having fun. As volunteers, we can be role models, helping them learn values, have new experiences, and interact face-to-face with others."

Flexible Commitment and Full Safeguarding

The group stresses that volunteering can be tailored to fit busy schedules, with options to help occasionally or in specific roles. No prior scouting experience is necessary. All adult volunteers will undergo references and an enhanced DBS check to ensure the utmost safety for the young members.
