The Holmeswood Art Group is set to present a new exhibition titled The Bright Side of Life at The ArtHouse in Southport, offering an eclectic display of subjects and styles that capture moments of joy. Group leader Marion Bayliss, originally from Somerset, explained that in troubled times, they wanted to bring joy to the world through their art.
Exhibition Details
Running from May 4 to June 16 at The ArtHouse on Eastbank Street, the exhibition showcases works by members Pat Anders, Rona V Flynn, Nikki Lindsay, and Clare Hyams. The group has been meeting weekly at Holmeswood Village Hall, north of the Martin Mere Wetland Centre, for three years, gaining confidence under Marion's tuition.
Artists' Perspectives
Marion Bayliss rediscovered her passion for painting after her children left home. She enjoys using acrylics but adapts her medium to achieve the desired effect, often painting seascapes inspired by visits to Devon and Cornwall.
Pat Anders from Aintree returned to art after a painting holiday reignited her interest. She finds art absorbing and continues to learn new techniques in Marion's classes.
Rona V Flynn, a writer and artist, reconnected with painting after a long break. She loves watercolours and finds painting meditative, often drawing from nature.
Nikki Lindsay started painting before the Covid lockdown and explores styles from realism to abstraction. She focuses on light and ensures she enjoys the process.
Clare Hyams took early retirement from teaching and began learning to draw and paint. She now takes holiday photos with future artwork in mind and has grown confident in public sketching.
The exhibition features a mix of subjects, including music, dance, food, street scenes, and poetry. The gallery is open Tuesday to Friday 10am-3pm and Saturday 11am-4pm.
