There is no need to travel all the way to France to enjoy gorgeous lavender fields this summer. The Cotswold Lavender Fields at Hill Barn Farm in Broadway are opening to the public soon, offering a quintessentially English countryside experience just over an hour from Birmingham.
What to Expect at the Cotswold Lavender Fields
Set on a third-generation family farm in the heart of the Cotswold Hills, the fields feature 45 acres of purple flowers. Visitors can explore the Beechwood Trail, which opened last year and leads to a viewpoint overlooking the Vale of Evesham. Children can enjoy a Teepee camp for stories, songs, and teddy bear picnics, as well as natural play areas in the woodland.
Picnics are welcome, with plenty of spots to sit and soak up the sun and relaxing aromas. The Lavender Fields Cabin serves freshly made lavender scones with clotted cream and lavender tea, along with lavender biscuits, flapjacks, and locally made organic ice cream. The on-site Distillery demonstrates how lavender oil is extracted, and a shop sells products such as hand cream, diffusers, drawer liners, candles, and chocolate.
Opening Dates and Prices
The lavender fields reopen on June 17 for the 2026 flowering season, with July being the best time to see the blooms in full flower. The fields are open daily from 10am to 5pm until August 5. Prices remain the same as 2025, starting from £5.75 for adults and £3 for children off peak, with under fives free. Tickets are not available in advance; visitors pay by card on arrival.
Farmer's Story
Farmer Charlie Byrd recalled planting the first lavender plants on hands and knees, unsure if the crop would survive the harsh winters. "But survive it did, although we did have a few sleepless nights in the early days. It is now difficult to remember a time before lavender was central to our farm," he said.
Places to Stay
For those wanting to make a weekend of it, Broadway Cottage offers a private courtyard garden and is within walking distance of Broadway High Street. Alternatively, The Bindery is a newly renovated Grade II listed apartment sleeping up to four guests in the heart of Broadway.
How to Get There
The Cotswold Lavender Fields are at Hill Barn Farm, Broadway, Worcestershire WR12 7JY. The drive from Birmingham takes around one hour and 20 minutes via the A435, traffic permitting.
