If you're looking for last-minute half term activities in Birmingham and the West Midlands, there's plenty to keep the kids entertained. From mini golf to outdoor pools, high ropes adventures to shopping villages, and splash pads to free outdoor cinema, here are my top suggestions.
Aztec Adventure's The Lost Valley
Located just an hour from Birmingham, the Lost Valley has been named in Tripadvisor's top 10% of attractions worldwide. It features an 18-hole outdoor adventure golf course, a high ropes aerial adventure, a shopping village, a play castle, a railway, and a splash pad. It's a fantastic day out for all the family.
Just Play in Kingstanding
Kids are invited to 'one last play' at Just Play in Kingstanding. This much-loved Birmingham soft play centre is sadly closing after nine years, so it's your final chance to enjoy it.
Brum's 'Seaside Town' Paddling Pool
Brum's 'seaside town' has its paddling pool up and running again for the summer, perfect for this heatwave. Don't forget our guide to all the outdoor pools and lidos around the West Midlands, including opening times to help you keep cool.
Free Outdoor Cinema at NEC Lakeside
We have a full list of all the films being shown at the free outdoor cinema at Birmingham NEC's new Lakeside experience, which also has a playground for kids. It's a great way to enjoy a film under the stars without spending a penny.
Blue Flag Beach Recommendation
If you're planning a beach trip, I recommend one that's just been given a Blue Flag award for 2026. It takes around two hours and 40 minutes to drive from land-locked Birmingham. I took the kids there and loved it, especially as there's so much to do on foot without needing your car.
New Cafe in Lichfield Cathedral
If you'd rather stay out of the sun, a new cafe called SALT has opened in an unusual location: Lichfield Cathedral. It promises excellent coffee, delicious cakes, and genuine hospitality under the shelter of the iconic spires.
