Wales Musicians Unite for Make Music Day in Aberystwyth

Musicians from across Wales are set to strike a chord together as they join a global movement celebrating the universal language of song. A spectacular performance will be held in Aberystwyth in celebration of Make Music Day, an international festival of music making on June 21 - a unique event that encourages performers of all ages and abilities to step into the spotlight. Whether you are a seasoned pro or a complete beginner, the town is throwing open its doors to ensure that everyone has the chance to contribute to a massive, harmonious celebration of Welsh talent.

The Big Summer Wind Orchestra and Choir will assemble at Llys y Brenin, near the promenade, for a glorious celebration of music at a giant scale. Previous events have brought together everything from piccolos to contrabass clarinets with a full range of singing voices, and the first concert in Wales should be just as huge and exciting.

Calling All Musicians

Do you have a musical instrument in the attic, and the case hasn't been opened in a while? Are you a shower singer and would love to showcase your voice to the world? Now is your chance! An expert musical director will guide performers through specially prepared sheet music suitable for everyone. Best of all, it is completely free to take part.

Some specially commissioned Welsh folk song arrangements will even be premiered. From chart-topping hits to opera choruses, and folk song to musical theatre, there will be something for everyone in the programme.

Location and Atmosphere

The first Big Wind Orchestra and Choir event in Wales will be hosted in Aberystwyth in the public square at Llys y Brenin, very close to the promenade and beach. With a stunning backdrop, and glorious summer vibes near the beach, it is a superb location for musicians from across the area to come and participate.

Event co-ordinator, Adam Funnell, said: "Our huge event on Make Music Day will bring together musicians into a unique ensemble. We want people to dust off their instruments, warm up their voices and join in, especially if they do not usually perform in a group. Hundreds of musicians performing such a wide range of music, in the perfect summer location, will make for a wonderful concert."

The event is proudly co-organised by Making Music, the home of leisure-time music across the UK, and supported by Ceredigion County Council. This performance is part of the Make Music Day events popping up across the country, including Big Wind Orchestra and Choir events in every UK nation. From libraries, pubs and shopping centres, to parks, gardens and the biggest concert halls, June 21 will be filled with music making wherever you are.
