A nostalgic look back at a selection of captivating photos unearthed from the archives, taken in and around the centre of Macclesfield, has been released.

Sunday School Walk from St George’s Church

This week's cover image shows a Sunday School walk from St George’s Church, Poynton. This photograph, taken in the 1920s from a broken glass plate, depicts a group of ladies wearing cloche hats and dresses. The cloche hat, invented in 1908, was especially popular in the 1920s and early 1930s. Pictured from front row left to right: Sarah Broadhurst, May Jackson, Mary Woolrich, Alice Morrell, Amy Hordley, May Collier, Stanley Walters, Hilda Walters, Elsie Henshall, Beatrice Walters and Florrie Barton.

Across the Cobbles: Mill Street

Another image shows Mill Street, Macclesfield, pictured around 1890, in a view towards Park Green. The Bear’s Head and the 100 Vaults are on the right, with the Pig and Whistle just across the road.
