Scouts Create Art for New Bloom Development Hoarding

A Welwyn Garden City Scout group has partnered with housing association SNG to bring artistic flair to a new local development. Young participants from the Beavers and Cubs at 6th Welwyn Garden City Scouts put their creativity to the test by designing original artwork inspired by butterflies and flowers. Each colourful submission has now been brought to life and displayed on the hoarding of the new Bloom development for the local community to see.

Community Collaboration

Tracey Lewis, from 6th WGC Scout Group, said: “Our Beavers and Cubs were thrilled to be asked to participate in this community project. The theme of nature for this project is really appropriate for our young people as our Scout hut has an allotment area and children are involved with planting and growing flowers and vegetables. Scouting is about being part of the community and what a fitting way to highlight our Scout group to the local area.”

The homes at Bloom are being created as a place for people to put down roots and grow, with a launch scheduled for this summer. The collection of 56 one and two-bedroom shared ownership properties is located within easy reach of local urban amenities and green spaces. Residents will benefit from excellent transport links to nearby cities and the surrounding countryside, alongside dedicated parking at the development.

Artwork Celebrating Nature

Kalumba Musambachime, from SNG, said: “A huge thank you to the 6th WGC Scouts who got involved and submitted a piece of art for our hoarding at Bloom. The children channelled the Scouts’ love of nature into designs centred around butterflies and flowers, and the result is a wonderful collection of colourful, characterful artwork that will bring the construction site to life for passers-by. Working with a local group such as the Scouts on this project pays tribute to Welwyn Garden City’s proud heritage, as well as the bright future taking shape at the development for those who will call it home.”

The partnership highlights the Scouts' commitment to community engagement, with their hut's allotment area providing a direct link to the nature theme. The Bloom development, with 56 shared ownership homes, aims to offer affordable housing in a well-connected location. The artwork on the hoarding will remain until construction is complete, adding vibrancy to the site.
