Fabrik Shop in Sutton Coldfield Closes Suddenly Again, Baffling Locals
Fabrik Shop Closes Suddenly Again in Sutton Coldfield

A shop in Sutton Coldfield's town centre has closed down without warning once again, marking the third time the business has disappeared abruptly. Women's clothes retailer Fabrik had occupied the former Topshop and Topman store at the Gracechurch Centre on and off since October 2021.

History of Sudden Closures

The business first left suddenly in September 2022, with the shop stripped bare. However, it returned the following summer, setting up again as if it had never been away. In March 2024, it vanished once more. Now, the store is empty again, with all clothing rails removed and no note explaining the sudden closure.

Even town centre business bosses seemed to have little idea what was happening. The Visit Royal Sutton Coldfield BID (Business Improvement District), which sees local businesses collaborate and pool funds for improvements, shared the news on Facebook. The message, alongside a photo of the empty store, read: "At this stage, we're unsure whether the closure is permanent, as the business has closed and reopened in the past. We'll share any confirmed updates as and when we receive them."

Future Plans for the Space

When the business last closed in 2024, the Gracechurch Centre's owners, Birmingham Property Group and SAV Group, revealed plans to utilise the space. The idea was for the former shop to become a hub for local events, gatherings, and collaboration. At the time, it was suggested the site could include a ground-floor café, a dedicated children's play area, and a community-led space. However, no further updates have been provided regarding those plans.
