Amazon has reduced prices on three of its latest Kindle models — the Kindle Kids, Kindle Colorsoft and Kindle Scribe — offering significant savings for ereader enthusiasts. The Kindle Kids range now starts at £89.99, the Colorsoft is available for £174, and the Scribe is priced at £304.99.
Kindle Kids Price Cuts
The Kindle Kids models include the basic Kindle Kids at £89.99 (down from £114.99), Kindle Paperwhite Kids at £134.99 (down from £169.99), and Kindle Colorsoft Kids at £194 (down from £259.99). These devices come with a child-friendly cover and a two-year worry-free guarantee, meaning Amazon will replace the device free of charge if damaged. Additionally, a six-month Kids+ subscription is included, granting unlimited access to children's books, games, and videos. After the trial, the subscription costs £4.99 per month for Prime members or £6.99 for non-Prime users.
The Kindle Kids is lightweight, easy to hold with one hand, and offers up to six weeks of battery life on a single USB-C charge. A parent dashboard allows adults to add books, adjust age filters, set a device bedtime, and monitor reading progress.
Kindle Colorsoft: First Colour Kindle
The Kindle Colorsoft is the first Kindle with a colour screen, ideal for graphic novels and colour-coded highlights. It is currently 27% off at £174, down from £239.99. The device features a 7-inch Colorsoft display that is high-contrast, paper-like, and gentle on the eyes. Battery life lasts up to eight weeks, and the screen can be adjusted from white to amber for low-light or bright-sunlight reading. It is also waterproof, making it suitable for poolside use. While the battery life is shorter than the Paperwhite, the Colorsoft costs only £14 more, making it an attractive upgrade. Compared to the Kobo Clara Colour (£149.99), the Colorsoft has a larger screen and longer battery life, though the Kobo offers free books via Libby.
Kindle Scribe: Read and Write
The Kindle Scribe is reduced from £429.99 to £304.99, a saving of £125. It combines an ereader with a notebook, featuring a flush-front display and a Premium Pen that mimics writing on paper. Users can jot notes directly on books or use the dedicated notebook function. Built-in AI tools can summarise and refine written content. The device is limited to reading, writing, and annotating documents, helping users reduce screen time. A competing product, the Kobo Libra Colour, costs £209.99 and includes colour technology and physical buttons, but its screen is smaller and the stylus (£69.99) is sold separately, making the total cost lower than the discounted Scribe.
All three Kindles are compatible with Kindle Unlimited, Amazon's subscription service offering millions of titles for £9.49 per month. New Kindle purchases include three months of Kindle Unlimited free. Devices also support Audible audiobooks via Bluetooth headphones or speakers.
