The Gosta Green, a beloved pub in Birmingham city centre, is set to close its doors after 16 years, with plans to reopen under new management just in time for the 2026 World Cup.
Final Farewell on May 23
The pub, situated at the heart of the Aston University campus, has been a hub for students and sports enthusiasts, especially after a major refurbishment two years ago. The management announced on social media that the pub will close on Saturday, May 23, inviting patrons to join them for a final farewell.
According to the announcement, the venue will reopen after a brief closure. It has since been confirmed that the relaunch will take place on Tuesday, June 16, the day before England's first match in the 2026 World Cup. The pub promises a new look and feel, ready for the international football competition.
A Heartfelt Thank You
In the social media post, the team expressed gratitude: "After 16 incredible years, we're closing our doors for a short while. The Gosta Green has been more than just a pub – it’s been a place for sport, a hub for students. Where we've celebrated the small moments and the big occasions together."
The statement continued: "From birthdays and afterwork drinks to tense matchdays and unforgettable nights, we’ve shared so many special memories, and we want to say a heartfelt thank you to our guests and the local community for your loyalty and support."
What to Expect on Final Day
The pub urged customers to join the team for the final day on May 23. However, it noted significant rail disruption due to strike action on that day. Additionally, the Birmingham Pride parade will cause bus stop changes, with a full list of impacted services available. Visitors are advised to plan their transport ahead of time.
The new management looks forward to welcoming everyone back soon, promising a bigger and better experience for years to come.
