Two Birmingham-born organisers have launched a new music festival that they proudly describe as being 'built on Birmingham energy', despite its seaside location in Weston-super-Mare. Ian Rogers and Mark Jones, both Brummies, are behind Summer Fest at the Beach, a two-day event that has already sold more than 15,000 tickets and features a lineup including Blue, Madness, Craig David, and Five.
A Festival with Birmingham Roots
Dubbed 'Birmingham-on-Sea', the festival takes place on June 6 and 7, with organisers emphasising its deep connection to the Midlands city. Ian Rogers and Mark Jones explained that Weston-super-Mare holds a special place in the hearts of many Birmingham families, making it an ideal venue for their venture.
Building on Childhood Memories
The organisers shared their personal ties to the location, stating, "For people from Birmingham, Weston isn't just a holiday destination - it's part of growing up. Most of us spent our childhood summers there." They added that while the festival happens in Weston, it is fundamentally powered by Birmingham's vibrant spirit and community energy.
Long-Term Vision for the Festival
Rather than planning a one-off event, the team has designed Summer Fest at the Beach with longevity in mind. They aim to create a fixture that attracts repeat audiences and supports future growth. "This is something we've wanted to do properly from the start," they said. "Not just create a big weekend, but build something that lasts."
Experience and Expansion
Before expanding Summer Fest at the Beach beyond the Midlands, Ian Rogers delivered a series of established events across the region, including Solihull Summer Fest. This experience has informed their approach to crafting a sustainable and engaging festival experience. More major artists are still to be announced, adding to the anticipation for the inaugural event.
The festival represents a unique blend of Birmingham's cultural energy and the nostalgic appeal of Weston-super-Mare, promising a memorable summer celebration for attendees from across the UK.
