Ticketmaster Takes Action Over Resold Harry Styles £20 Concert Tickets
Ticketmaster has issued a formal statement regarding the controversial resale of tickets for Harry Styles' upcoming £20 concert, confirming that numerous tickets have been cancelled and refunded. The one-off show, scheduled for March 6 at Co-op Live in Manchester, will feature the Redditch-born singer performing tracks from his latest album, 'Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally'.
High Demand and Registration Process
Due to overwhelming demand for this special event, fans were required to register in advance during a two-day period starting on Friday, February 7. By midnight on February 10, applicants were notified if they had successfully secured tickets, with a strict allocation of two tickets per person. This process was designed to ensure fair access for genuine fans.
Resale Controversy and Fan Fury
However, the system was undermined when £20 tickets began appearing on unauthorised resale websites for hundreds of pounds more, leading to significant anger among Harry Styles' supporters. This practice not only violated the terms of sale but also exploited fans seeking affordable access to the concert.
Ticketmaster's Response and Measures
In response to the backlash, Ticketmaster has collaborated with Harry Styles' management team to identify and cancel orders that breached sale rules. The company stated that all tickets are non-transferable, meaning any listed on resale sites are void and will not grant entry to the show. As a result, these tickets are being cancelled and refunded.
Additionally, orders exceeding the two-ticket limit per person are also being cancelled and refunded. Ticketmaster emphasised that fans should only purchase tickets through their official platform, as they cannot offer protection for transactions on other sites. The company aims to reissue cancelled tickets directly to fans, though there will not be a new request option. Instead, a select number of fans whose original bids were unfulfilled will be contacted via email with further instructions.
This move highlights ongoing issues in the ticketing industry, particularly around resale practices for high-demand events. Ticketmaster's actions seek to uphold fairness and prevent profiteering, ensuring that more fans can enjoy the concert at its intended affordable price.
