Brentwood Theatre Undergoes Exciting Upgrades and Plans Community Support
Due to the demanding nature of parliamentary duties, I rarely have the chance to visit the theatre as often as I would prefer. Therefore, I was absolutely delighted to seize the opportunity to drop into Brentwood Theatre last week to learn about the incredible work being carried out by our outstanding community theatre.
New Leadership and Behind-the-Scenes Insights
Jake Bedson has recently taken on the role of manager at Brentwood Theatre, and it was a genuine pleasure to meet him along with theatre trustees Penny and Jos Hollington for an exclusive backstage tour. For a venue that regularly hosts productions with multiple performers both onstage and behind the curtains, there is remarkably limited space backstage for actors to make entrances and exits, as well as for storing props and scenery during performances.
Ongoing Refurbishment and Future Plans
Over the years, Brentwood Theatre has been significantly expanded and enhanced, with notable improvements including an upgraded bar area. Currently, the theatre is undergoing a careful and fiscally responsible renewal and refurbishment of its lighting and sound rigs. These upgrades are designed to make the equipment more adaptable and cost-effective to operate.
It is highly likely that some of the older equipment being replaced will be made available to local schools and village halls that are looking to replace or augment their own lighting systems. I strongly encourage everyone to monitor the theatre's Facebook posts for updates on what equipment might become available.
A Busy Schedule and Inclusive Performances
It is excellent news to hear that the theatre is fully booked with a variety of shows, National Theatre Live events, and film screenings for the majority of the remaining year. Tickets for the upcoming Christmas production, The Elves and the Shoemaker, are already on sale. Additionally, the theatre will offer relaxed and signed performances to ensure accessibility for all audiences.
It was truly wonderful to see that Brentwood Theatre is in such capable hands, and I eagerly anticipate returning soon to enjoy a show and continue supporting this fantastic community asset.
