Theatre lovers in Lincoln are in for a treat this July as a timeless classic comedy prepares to take to the local stage.
Classic Comedy Comes to The Blue Room
The Asylum Players are bringing Oscar Wilde's most famous play, 'The Importance of Being Earnest', to The Blue Room. Audiences will be fully immersed in a witty and irreverent world filled with razor-sharp wit, mistaken identities, and rather unusual family trees.
The amusing story follows John 'Jack' Worthing, who desperately wants to marry Gwendoline Fairfax. Meanwhile, Gwendoline is determined to marry a man named Ernest Worthing, which happens to be the name Jack uses whenever he is visiting London.
The plot thickens with Algernon Moncrief, who has no intention of marrying anyone until he meets Jack's ward, Cecily Cardew. Cecily, however, is also completely set on marrying someone named Ernest. Filled with mistaken identities, sharp wit and comic twists, the production promises an entertaining evening of theatrical chaos.
Director and Artistic Director Share Excitement
Stephen Gillard, artistic director of The Blue Room and The Asylum Players, said: "Earnest is one of those plays that just works so well all across the ages. It’s funny, silly, incredibly witty and with a plethora of fun characters for audiences of all ages."
"Our amazing director, Laura Martin, is doing a fantastic job bringing this production to the stage and I hope everyone who comes to see it will have a fantastic evening of laughter and fun."
