Lincolnshire 100 Challenge Funds Supported Holidays

Lincolnshire Launches 100 Challenge to Fund Supported Holidays for Adults

Lincolnshire residents are being called upon to participate in the 100 Challenge, a unique fundraising initiative designed to provide memorable holidays for adults who require additional support. This sponsored activity series runs for 30 days, from April 10—the 100th day of the year—to May 10, and is open to everyone in the community.

How the 100 Challenge Works

The challenge requires teams of eight people, which can be formed from family, friends, colleagues, or local clubs and community groups. Each team must complete three specific goals to earn points:

  • Walk or run a total of 100 miles as a team.
  • Collect 100 pieces of litter per team member, contributing to cleaner local environments.
  • Eat 100 pieces or portions of fruit to promote healthier lifestyles.

In addition to these core tasks, teams can earn bonus points by creating their own self-designed 100 challenges, encouraging creativity and community engagement.

Supporting Adults in Need

All funds raised through the 100 Challenge will be managed by the council’s Community Opportunities team, specifically to finance supported holidays for the adults they assist. These holidays are crucial breaks for individuals who would otherwise be unable to travel due to the need for extra support, such as specialized care or accessibility accommodations.

While the council already funds various activities throughout the year, there is a persistent high demand for more resources. The money collected from this challenge will help cover the costs of specialist support, enabling more people to enjoy safe, happy, and personalized holidays of their choice.

Community Impact and Prizes

Cllr Steve Clegg, Executive Member for Adult Care and Health, emphasized the importance of this initiative: "It can be difficult for some people to take a holiday because of the cost of the extra support they’d need. The 100 Challenge is a chance for the community to come together and help make the holiday of their dreams a reality."

The challenges are thoughtfully designed to not only raise funds but also improve the health and wellbeing of participants and benefit the wider community through activities like litter collection. To incentivize participation, prizes will be awarded to teams in several categories, including those earning the most points, devising the most innovative challenges, and demonstrating the best team spirit.

For further details, individuals can visit the designated JustGiving page. To register a team, email kirsty.fisher@lincolnshire.gov.uk before noon on Thursday, April 9, ensuring timely participation in this impactful community effort.
