Hallfield School in Edgbaston has been recognised as one of the top education institutions in the country, securing a place in the prestigious Best Schools Guide. The fee-charging private primary, which educates children up to the age of 13, has seen demand soar, with waiting lists reportedly stretching "several years" long.
Recognition in Muddy Stilettos Guide
The school was featured in the guide compiled by experts at Muddy Stilettos, which highlights some of the UK's finest private and grammar schools. Hallfield was one of only a handful of Midlands institutions to receive this accolade, cementing its reputation as a leading preparatory school.
According to the guide, Hallfield School is more than 140 years old and sits among the leafy streets of Birmingham's upmarket suburb, Edgbaston. At its heart is an elegant Georgian building, surrounded by 22 acres of grounds, making it one of the largest prep schools in the country offering co-education for children aged 3 months to 13 years.
Strong Academic Reputation and Investment
The school boasts a well-earned strong academic reputation, with waiting lists in several years. The guide notes that there has been significant investment since 2018, totalling approximately £6 million. This includes two modern, state-of-the-art classrooms that seamlessly blend with the Georgian exterior, as well as a food technology room.
Hallfield has four entry points: nursery, Pre-Prep, Prep, and Seniors (Years 7 and 8). Currently, 520 pupils are on roll, and the school has never been busier. Despite its size, class sizes remain reasonably small, averaging 18 pupils and never exceeding 22.
Admissions Process and Parent Demand
Parents who can afford the fees are desperate to secure a place for their children. The admissions process is selective: there is no assessment for Pre-Prep pupils, but Prep students must pass exams in Maths and English as part of a day visiting the school, ensuring they will not struggle with the curriculum.
The recognition in the Best Schools Guide comes as no surprise to those familiar with the school's history and achievements. Hallfield prepares its pupils for some of the most prestigious secondary schools and universities, and its inclusion in the guide underscores its standing among the country's elite educational institutions.
