Mayflower High School GCSE Results Rise by 3%

Year 11 students at Mayflower High School in Billericay celebrated GCSE results day with higher achievements than previous cohorts. The school recorded a three per cent increase in the number of students passing GCSE English and maths courses at Grade 4 or higher compared to last year. Additionally, there was a seven per cent rise in students achieving Grade 5 and above.

Top Performers and Individual Achievements

Among the top achieving students this year were Lotty Smith, who earned eight Grade 9s; Megan Postuma with five Grade 9s and four Grade 8s; Kristen Lambe with five Grade 9s, two Grade 8s, one Grade 7 and one Grade 6; and Daisy Mears with four Grade 9s and five Grade 8s. Other notable results included Chloe Barker with four Grade 9s, four Grade 8s and one Grade 7; Ellie Lovell with three Grade 9s, four Grade 8s and two Grade 7s; Ollie Sargood with three Grade 9s, five Grade 8s and one Grade 7; Achyut Naredla with three Grade 9s, four Grade 8s, one Grade 6 and one Grade 5; Tom Lehman with three Grade 8s, four Grade 7s and two Grade 6s; Grace Mott with two Grade 9s, five Grade 8s and two Grade 7s; and Isabella Currie with two Grade 9s, three Grade 8s, two Grade 7s and two Grade 6s.

Headteacher Comments on Progress

Headteacher Damian Lee, who joined the school in 2023 to boost standards and achievements, said: "I want to congratulate all of our Year 11 students on their GCSE results today. They have worked consistently hard throughout their courses, showing steady determination and a great attitude towards their studies. Preparing for exams takes a lot of perseverance, and our students should be very pleased with what they have achieved."

Lee added: "It is encouraging to see our overall results continue to move in the right direction, building on the steady progress we have made as a school over the last few years. These outcomes are a team effort. I am grateful to our teaching and support staff for their guidance, and to our parents and carers for supporting their children through the exam period."

Lee concluded: "Whether our students are staying on with us for Post-16 study, moving to college, or beginning an apprenticeship, we wish them every success in their next steps." The school is located in Billericay, within the Basildon district of Essex.
