A number of top Midlands schools have been named among the very best in the country in a new national schools guide. The guide, compiled by experts at Muddy Stilettos as part of its Best Schools Guide, features some of the most prestigious and respected institutions in England, including private fee-paying and grammar schools that attract some of the brightest children.
Prestigious Schools Included
The list includes secondaries and all-through schools, with several prestigious Midlands schools making the cut. Among them are Hallfield School in Edgbaston, Tettenhall College in Wolverhampton, Bromsgrove School, Princethorpe College in Rugby, and Rugby School.
Hallfield School Recognised for Academic Excellence
The expert panel praised Hallfield School, a co-educational prep school for children aged three months to 13 years, for its long-standing academic reputation. They noted that the school puts pastoral care front and centre and offers excellent wraparound services. Hallfield School is more than 140 years old and sits among the leafy streets of Birmingham’s upmarket suburb of Edgbaston. At its heart sits an elegant Georgian building, surrounded by 22 acres of grounds, making it one of the largest prep schools in the country offering co-education for children aged three months to 13 years.
Tettenhall College Praised for Inclusivity
Tettenhall College was described as an academically inclusive co-educational day and boarding school set in the heart of pretty Tettenhall. The school is pastorally and academically strong for ages two to 18 years. Located on 33 acres of ancient woodland and grounds, Tettenhall College has over 500 pupils, with a healthy split of 55% boys and 45% girls. It is well-respected locally as an academically and pastorally strong school, with boarding options from age 10 plus. Founded as a boys’ school in 1863, the original Grade II listed Victorian building is still intact, including a beautiful, wooden-clad theatre. The school has been co-educational for more than 40 years and boasts a campus full of heritage buildings mixed with modern facilities and playing fields. Nursery and prep are in the same building, while senior is separate, but many senior facilities are shared with prep. Just outside the school gates is the quintessentially English village of Tettenhall, complete with a bustling high street, village green, and a popular lido.
