Body found in search for missing Loughborough student

Police have tragically recovered a body from a river during the search for a missing university student from Loughborough.

Extensive Search Operation

Aryan Sharma, a 20-year-old student at Loughborough University, was last seen on CCTV on Meadow Lane at around 12.30am on Saturday, 22 November. After he was reported missing, an extensive search operation was launched.

On the evening of Sunday, 14 December, officers were deployed to Normanton on Soar following a report of a body seen in the River Soar. The force's Tactical Support Team (TST) and the National Police Air Service (NPAS) conducted a search of the waterway, during which a body was located.

Family's Heartbreaking Plea

Although formal identification has not yet been completed, police believe the body to be that of Aryan Sharma. Specialist officers are supporting his family, who have requested privacy.

Previously, his parents, Sukhi and Rakesh Sharma from London, made an emotional public appeal. They described Aryan as a family-oriented young man who spoke to them daily and harboured dreams of working for the RAF.

His mother made a direct plea, saying: "I love you. I always have, I always will. No matter what, please come home. We're all waiting for you." She added, "Christmas is coming. His 21st birthday is coming. His sister's waiting for him, she asks every day. I just want my boy back."

Investigation Continues

A file is now being prepared for HM Coroner as the investigation into the circumstances continues. The discovery brings a devastating development to the weeks-long search for the missing student.
