The Met Office has confirmed that a blast of hot weather is set to arrive later this week, pushing temperatures up to highs of 29C and 30C in 20 towns and cities across England.
After a cold spell this June, temperatures in multiple English areas are about to dramatically increase at the end of this week. According to a weather forecast issued by the Met Office, six counties will see a maximum temperature of 29C or even 30C on Friday, June 19.
The scorcher will arrive in the afternoon, at around 4pm, when temperatures are forecast to reach a peak. The heatwave will mostly affect towns and cities in Cambridgeshire, Essex, Greater London, Kent, Norfolk and Suffolk.
Midlands and Northern England
In the Midlands and Northern England, the temperatures will dip to a slightly more comfortable average of 24C. In Scotland, light rain is predicted to impact multiple parts, including Glasgow and Edinburgh.
It will be preceded by slightly colder weather on Wednesday, June 17, which the Met Office expects to be 'warm and rather humid' with a maximum temperature of 25C. On Thursday, the conditions will be similar but slightly warmer, with a peak temperature of approximately 27C.
Met Office Forecast
The Met Office's forecast for Thursday to Saturday says the weather should be 'mostly fine with some sunshine'. However, it will be 'turning increasingly hot and humid towards the weekend, staying mainly dry, but with the possibility of thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday.'
Its long-range forecast for Saturday, June 20 to Monday, June 29, says: 'There is the possibility of some very warm and humid weather across parts of south and southeast Britain at the start of this period and perhaps the chance of a few thunderstorms too. Generally more changeable to the north and west at first, but there is a signal for high pressure to build more widely as we move towards the latter part of June. This likely brings more widely drier, settled conditions with temperatures probably remaining above average for most. It is still possible that Atlantic low pressure may still bring brief spells of wet and windy weather. There is a chance that the hot conditions could return northwards accompanied by a thunderstorm risk; this all dependent on the orientation of the aforementioned high pressure.'
Currently, there are no warnings issued by the Met Office.
