Birmingham City Council Auctions Former Allotment Land in Alum Rock
Birmingham City Council has placed a set of former allotments up for sale, with the freehold land set to go under the hammer at a landmark auction next month. The plot, known as Fernbank Leisure Gardens, is situated adjacent to Fernbank Road in the residential suburb of Alum Rock.
Guide Price Set at Over £25,000 for Vacant Site
The council is marketing the land with a guide price of £25,000 plus, and it will feature in Bond Wolfe's 50th auction event. Gurpreet Bassi, chief executive of Bond Wolfe, confirmed the details, noting the site extends to approximately 692 square metres and is currently unused.
"This plot of land containing vacant former allotment gardens could be suitable to be developed for a variety of uses, subject to planning permission," Bassi stated. "The land is in the busy Alum Rock residential area, just south of Ward End park, which is close to plenty of schools, shops and local services."
Prime Location for Potential Redevelopment
The exact location of the former allotments is adjacent to 94 Fernbank Road and at the rear of 19 to 15 Tranter Road, around the corner from the main Alum Rock Road. This positioning in a well-serviced neighbourhood enhances its appeal for potential buyers looking at redevelopment opportunities.
Auction Details and Bidding Information
The sale is part of Bond Wolfe's upcoming auction, scheduled to commence at 8.30am on Thursday, May 14. The event will be livestreamed via the company's website, with remote bidding options available by proxy, telephone, or internet. Interested parties can register to bid through Bond Wolfe's official channels.
The former allotments will be among numerous lots presented at the auction, highlighting the council's ongoing efforts to manage its property portfolio. This move follows a trend of local authorities divesting underutilised land to generate revenue and encourage community development.
