Knutsford Town Council is calling on volunteers to help clear overgrown footpaths that have become a hazard for children and families walking to school. Two community clean-up days have been organised to tackle weeds and brambles along King Edward Road and Kenilworth Avenue, with the aim of restoring the paths to their original width and making them safer and more accessible.
What the Clean-Up Involves
The council will provide all necessary tools and protective gloves, so volunteers can safely cut back messy plants and dig out dirt. The work is expected to make a significant difference for pedestrians, particularly those using pushchairs or wheelchairs, who currently struggle to navigate the narrow, overgrown routes.
Two sessions have been scheduled: the first on Tuesday, August 18 at King Edward Road, starting at 10am with a safety briefing, and the second on Tuesday, August 25 at the path from Manor Park South to Kenilworth Avenue, also starting at 10am. Participation is free, and volunteers can join one or both sessions.
Community Success Story
Town Ranger Bob Garner highlighted the positive impact of previous efforts, noting that a similar clean-up on Sparrow Lane was a great success. He said: "The recent tidy town improvement day on Sparrow Lane was a great success and highlighted how much the community working together can achieve. It made what would have been a few days’ work, a few hours work and the difference in the path is amazing. Let’s give King Edward Road and Kenilworth Avenue the same transformation."
The council hopes this fresh effort will encourage more active travel across the town, making walking and cycling simpler and more enjoyable for everyone.
