Community Volunteers Brave Weather to Revitalize Lumb Millennium Green

On Saturday, March 28, a dedicated group of 18 individuals, including two children, came together at Lumb Millennium Green for the first cleanup event of the year. The effort was spearheaded by the Friends of LMG group, who were joined by members of Rossendale Rotary and local residents eager to preserve and enhance this cherished community space.

Extensive Cleanup and Planting Efforts

Volunteers engaged in a variety of tasks to improve the green, including litter picking, weeding, mowing, strimming, and tidying path edges. In a significant addition to the landscape, five apple trees were planted alongside numerous perennials. These apple trees were generously donated as part of Thatchers’ Community Orchard Project, contributing to the area's biodiversity and aesthetic appeal.

Rewarding Efforts Amidst Inclement Weather

As hail and snow began to fall towards the end of the morning, the hardworking volunteers were treated to tea, coffee, and cakes in the Rotary gazebo. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the event was deemed a great success, showcasing the community's commitment to environmental stewardship.
