EDF to Give UK Households 8 Hours Free Electricity on Christmas Day
Free Christmas Day electricity for EDF customers

In a welcome festive gesture, major energy supplier EDF has announced it will be providing eight hours of free electricity to its UK customers on Christmas Day. This special offer is part of the company's ongoing Sunday Saver challenge, providing a direct financial reprieve for households during the expensive holiday period.

What is the Christmas Day Free Electricity Offer?

The initiative promises eight hours of free electricity on 25 December 2025, specifically between 8am and 4pm. Typically, the Sunday Saver challenge allows participants to earn up to 16 hours of free electricity per month. However, as a December bonus, EDF has confirmed that all participants will automatically receive the full eight-hour free period on Christmas Day itself, without any additional effort required.

Who is Eligible for the Free Power?

To benefit from this offer, customers must meet specific criteria. You must register your interest in the Sunday Saver scheme via the EDF Energy Hub by 11:59pm on 24 December 2025. Furthermore, you must be aged 18 or over and live in England, Scotland, or Wales.

Eligibility is also contingent on your home setup. You must be a current domestic electricity customer of EDF with a working electricity smart meter. This meter must be capable of providing half-hourly readings, and you must have consented to share this data with EDF. Other requirements include having only one electricity import meter and being on a tariff with no more than two unit rates.

How Will the Free Electricity Be Calculated?

EDF has clarified the calculation process for the festive giveaway. A spokesperson stated, "We will calculate free electricity consumed by multiplying your total electricity consumption during the Event (capped at 8 hours) by the relevant unit rate of your electricity tariff."

The company also noted that any overpayments or underpayments may be adjusted in future bills. This offer provides a tangible opportunity for families to reduce their energy costs while enjoying their Christmas celebrations, from cooking the holiday roast to powering festive lights, without worrying about the meter.
