A simple combination of Greek yoghurt and self-raising flour can produce 'game-changing' bread that is easy to make, cheap, and delicious. This two-ingredient recipe has been shared widely on social media, and a Brum Daily writer put it to the test after her husband devoured the family's bread supply in three days.
How the Recipe Came About
Jayne Thomson, News Editor at Brum Daily, found herself without bread and a 15-minute walk to the nearest shop. After seeing Instagram posts about yoghurt and flour bread but never catching the full recipe, she called her sister, a cookery teacher, who recommended the 'cup recipe': one cup of Greek yoghurt and one cup of self-raising flour, mixed together to form dough.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Thomson had both ingredients on hand and quickly made the bread. She mixed the yoghurt and flour in a bowl until combined. For extra flavour, she suggests adding seeds, nuts, or oil at this stage. Then knead gently for about three minutes and let the dough rest for 15 minutes.
The dough can be rolled out into portions. According to her sister, it works as a pizza dough or can be grilled as flatbreads. Thomson chose flatbreads for chicken wraps, cooking each piece on a medium-high heat for two to three minutes per side. Optionally, add butter, olive oil, or flaky salt after cooking.
Cost and Availability
The ingredients are affordable. Thomson notes that ASDA sells Just Essentials Fat Free Greek Style Yogurt 500g for 95p and Just Essentials Self Raising Flour 1.5kg for 70p. Aldi may offer even lower prices. This makes the recipe an economical alternative to shop-bought bread.
