10-Year-Old Runs 60km, Raises £810 for Cancer Services
Girl, 10, Runs 60km, Raises £810 for Cancer Services

Eflyn Ames, a 10-year-old girl from Carmarthenshire, ran 60 kilometers in a single week and raised £810 for the Cancer Services team at Prince Philip Hospital. She lives with her parents, two brothers, and two lively sausage dogs.

Challenge Inspired by Grandmother

Eflyn decided to take on the 60km running challenge to mark the 60,000 people diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK each year. Her grandmother, Caroline, has been supported by the Cancer Services Team for several years and has always felt well cared for.

Eflyn said: “I ran outside in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, on the athletics track in Carmarthen, and on the treadmill at home, often fueled by chocolate eggs over the Easter holidays. My nanny, Caroline, has been supported by the Cancer Services Team for several years and always been made to feel cared for. Mostly it was fun, but my legs and feet ached and I got quite tired. I did like Mummy feeding me chocolate on the treadmill though. I was very proud of myself for being so determined. I smashed my fundraising goal, which originally was £100. Everyone was just so generous, and I raised £810 in the end. Thank you to everyone who gave me encouragement.”

Fundraising Officer Praises Effort

Katie Hancock, fundraising officer, said: “A huge well done and thank you to Eflyn for taking on a BIG challenge and raising an incredible £810! We are incredibly grateful for your support. You are truly an inspiration to us all. The generous charitable donations we receive do not replace NHS funding. Instead, they support additional items and activities outside core NHS expenditure. These small extras make a big difference, and we are so grateful for every donation we receive.”
