Six fire crews are at the scene of a factory fire in Birmingham city centre tonight, with police cordoning off Factory Road in Hockley while firefighters tackle the blaze.
West Midlands Fire Service has urged people to avoid the area as crews respond to the incident. A police cordon is in place from the junction with Benson Road opposite The Tavern pub up to St Michael's Hill.
Residents report strong smell of burning plastic
Residents in the surrounding area have reported smelling burning plastic, with the odour noticeable even with windows shut. Natasha Boazman-Hollet told BirminghamLive: "You could smell the burning plastic from Norton Street even though our windows were shut, the smell was that strong it could be smelt from just under half a mile away."

Emergency services respond
West Midlands Fire Service posted: "We have six crews in attendance at Factory Road, Birmingham, where they have responded to a factory fire. Please avoid the area, where possible."
Police vehicles are also at the scene tonight as the road remains cordoned off. The incident is ongoing and this is a breaking news story.
