Blackpool GP and Mum of Two Takes on London Marathon for SSAFA
Blackpool GP Runs London Marathon for Armed Forces Charity

A Blackpool GP and mother of two is preparing to take on the London Marathon in support of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. Samantha Parker, 36, was inspired to take the leap by a close friend who runs the military-style fitness sessions she attends.

The Preston resident lives with her husband Chris, their two young sons, and their beloved border terrier, Pickle. She will join thousands of other runners on the start line later this month to take on the iconic 26.2-mile challenge.

While Samantha does not have a military background herself, she felt moved to help after learning about the charity’s vital work. Her friend Paul Game, who leads her regular outdoor fitness sessions, is also running the marathon for the same cause.

Between training sessions, Samantha continues to work locally as a GP while balancing a busy family life. She is also a lifelong Preston North End fan and has proudly held a season ticket for 28 years.

Training Challenges and Motivation

“Training for the London Marathon has been a real challenge alongside work and family life, but I’m incredibly proud to be running for SSAFA,” Samantha said. “I’ve learned so much about the support the charity gives to serving personnel, veterans and their families, and it feels special to be able to do something practical to help. Running alongside my friend Paul has made it even more meaningful.”

SSAFA provides lifelong practical and emotional support to serving personnel, veterans, and their families during difficult times. By taking on this feat, Samantha hopes to raise awareness of the unique challenges faced by the Armed Forces community.

“Knowing the difference SSAFA makes to people’s lives has kept me motivated through the training,” she added. “I’m really looking forward to race day and hopefully doing the charity proud.”

Samantha is now encouraging the local community to support her fundraising efforts for this historic race. SSAFA volunteers have been helping regulars, reserves, and veterans since 1885.
