The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced the full list of 24 skin conditions that qualify for the monthly Personal Independence Payment (PIP). PIP provides crucial financial assistance to millions of people across England and Wales. As of April 2026, over 3.7 million claimants rely on this benefit to manage the additional costs associated with long-term disabilities, physical health conditions, or mental health challenges.
Eligibility for PIP
The tax-free, non-means-tested payment is designed to support individuals with their daily living needs. Examples of skin conditions that could make someone eligible for receiving PIP include eczema (varicose and dermatitis), psoriasis, and rosacea among others. You can qualify for PIP while working, studying, or having savings. It is made up of a 'daily living' component and a 'mobility' component. Applicants could be eligible for one, both, or neither, depending on their assessment.
Updated Payment Rates for 2026
In January, the DWP updated its payment rates for 2026, adding 92 new conditions to the list that qualifies. This comes after a 3.8% inflationary increase. The new rates are as follows:
- Daily Living Component: Standard Rate: £76.70 per week; Enhanced Rate: £114.60 per week
- Mobility Component: Standard Rate: £30.30 per week; Enhanced Rate: £80.00 per week
You can get Personal Independence Payment (PIP) if all of the following apply to you: you're 16 or over, you have a long-term physical or mental health condition or disability, you have difficulty doing certain everyday tasks or getting around, and you expect the difficulties to last for at least 12 months from when they started.
