Metallica may have skipped Birmingham on their M72 World Tour, but the metal icons haven't forgotten the city. They are offering exclusive T-shirts to blood donors at the NHS Blood and Transplant centre on New Street, a move to address a drop in blood stocks during the summer heatwave.
Exclusive Merchandise for Donors
Fans who book appointments to donate blood, plasma, or platelets at the New Street centre will receive a limited-edition Metallica T-shirt featuring a special design. The shirts are available while stocks last from now until Friday, July 3, the date of the band's London concert.
Urgent Need for Blood
The initiative comes as NHS Blood and Transplant faces a shortage, particularly for O negative, B negative, and Ro subtype blood. Each donation can save up to three lives, according to Mark Chambers, director of donor experience for NHS Blood and Transplant.
Band's Commitment to Community
A spokesperson for Metallica said: "Wherever we go on tour, we want to give something meaningful back to the communities that welcome us. We've seen how working with blood services around the world can raise awareness and support patients, and we're excited to bring that same energy to the UK."
Mark Chambers added: "Metallica's global reach gives us an incredible opportunity to connect with new audiences right across the country. Every donation can save up to three lives, and we urgently need more people to book appointments and become regular donors."
Partnership with All Within My Hands Foundation
The band's All Within My Hands Foundation has partnered with the NHS on the blood drive. Additionally, the band has filled empty food bank shelves as part of their tour impact. Metallica will then pause touring before a Las Vegas residency at The Sphere.
