A 40-year-old American influencer and artist has died in Brazil, with her body discovered in a luxury hotel following a plastic surgery procedure. Hilde Lynn Helphenstein, widely known by her online alter ego Jerry Gogosian, was found dead at the Rosewood São Paulo hotel on Sunday, May 31.
Background and Career
Helphenstein, originally from Oakland, California, had been in São Paulo for approximately three weeks recovering from a cosmetic procedure, according to a report by NeedToKnow. Her plastic surgeon discovered her unresponsive after attempting to contact her by phone. When she did not answer, he traveled to the five-star hotel, where staff entered her room and found her in bed.
Police Investigation
The police have registered the case as a suspicious death at the 78th District Police Station in Jardins. No official cause of death has been released yet.
Helphenstein built a following of over 150,000 Instagram fans by satirizing the excesses, social norms, and commercialization of the contemporary art world. She graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute and hosted the podcast Art Smack, served as editor-in-chief of the subscriber bulletin The Jerry Report, and collaborated with major names including Sotheby’s, Phillips, and Playboy.
