Trainee Bricklayer, 20, Dies After Sudden Collapse at Birmingham Mental Health Centre
A young trainee bricklayer, aged just 20, tragically died after he suddenly collapsed at a mental health centre in Birmingham. Troy Bogle, who had a diagnosis of schizophrenia, was detained at the Tamarind Centre in Bordesley Green when he became breathless and collapsed on July 28 last year.
Inquest Details and Coroner's Findings
Attempts were made to resuscitate him, but he sadly died soon after arriving at Heartlands Hospital, as detailed in his record of inquest. His inquest this month concluded he suffered a fatal spontaneous pulmonary embolism, which is a sudden blockage of the lung by a blood clot.
In her written inquest, Senior Coroner Louise Hunt stated: "On July 28, 2025 he became breathless and collapsed on the ward. Attempts were made to resuscitate him and he was taken to Birmingham Heartlands Hospital where he died soon after arrival. Post mortem examination identified he died from a spontaneous pulmonary embolism."
Health Assessments and Background
Remarkably, no physical health concerns were found in the days leading up to his death, with his physical health assessed and no abnormalities noted. Troy Bogle had been at the young offenders institute, HMP Brinsford in Wolverhampton, before he was admitted to the ward as an inpatient in May last year.
The coroner added: "Mr Bogle was an inpatient on Myrtle ward at the Tamarind centre where he was detained under S47/49 of the Mental Health Act. He had a diagnosis of schizophrenia and was admitted on May 21, 2025 from HMP Brinsford where his mental health was noted to have deteriorated. He was progressing well and attended the gym regularly."
His cause of death was officially concluded as pulmonary venous thrombo-embolism caused by deep phlebothrombosis, highlighting the sudden and unexpected nature of this medical event.
