A valuable new initiative offering free support for women experiencing menopause and perimenopause has launched across libraries in Brentwood. The sessions are being delivered by the local leisure operator, Everyone Active, as part of its broader commitment to enhancing community health and wellbeing.
Informal and Accessible Information Sessions
The one-hour talks are designed to be informal and welcoming, led by experienced instructor Sarah Goodey. Their primary goal is to deliver clear, accessible information about menopause and perimenopause, actively working to reduce the associated stigma and foster open, honest conversations among women.
Comprehensive Session Content
Attendees can expect the sessions to cover a wide range of crucial topics. This includes discussions on common physical and emotional symptoms, strategies for maintaining mental wellbeing, and practical self-care techniques. Importantly, the talks will also explore how movement and positive lifestyle changes can provide significant support during midlife. Each session will allocate dedicated time for questions and group discussion, ensuring a participatory and supportive environment.
Session Schedule and Accessibility
An initial session has already been held at Brentwood Library. Forthcoming sessions are scheduled at:
- Ingatestone Library, High Street, Ingatestone, on Monday, February 23 at 3pm.
- Shenfield Library, Hutton Road, Shenfield, on Friday, February 27 at 1pm.
These sessions have been specifically designed to reach women who might not typically seek out support or feel comfortable discussing menopause in other settings. To maximise accessibility, there is no need to book in advance, and women are welcome to attend any of the available sessions.
Instructor's Perspective on Support
Instructor Sarah Goodey emphasised the importance of this community resource. "Menopause can significantly affect both physical and emotional wellbeing, yet many women are unsure where to find reliable, supportive information," she said. "These sessions are fundamentally about offering practical advice in a safe, understanding environment. A key message is reassuring women that their experiences are completely normal and shared by many."
