A mental health hospital in Nottinghamshire is celebrating after breaking a world record to raise vital funds for a children's charity.
Record-Breaking Achievement
Cygnet Hospital Sherwood, a 44-bed service in Mansfield, took part in a successful Guinness World Record attempt for the largest online music quiz. The nationwide event helped raise more than £2 million for Cash for Kids, a charity supporting children affected by poverty, illness, neglect, or additional needs.
How the Hospital Participated
Patients and staff from two wards at the facility put their knowledge to the test by answering quick-fire questions on classic hits and chart-toppers. Adam Robinson, from Cygnet Group, played a key role in getting the Mansfield service involved in the virtual event.
Robinson said: "I thought it would be fun to be part of a world record attempt as we have never done anything like this before." The hospital provides psychiatric intensive care and acute services for men experiencing mental health difficulties.
Teamwork and Social Connection
Organisers said the quiz provided a fantastic opportunity for teamwork, with everyone working together as equals to achieve the goal. Robinson noted: "Our service users were keen to get involved." He added: "Raising money for Cash for Kids was a bonus as it's a great charity."
Each team has now received an official Guinness World Record certificate to celebrate their achievement. The certificates are proudly displayed on the walls at the hospital, and patients have been taking photographs to share the proud moment with their families and friends.
Looking Ahead
Staff noticed a wonderful boost in morale, with the quiz demonstrating the positive benefits of shared interests and social connection. Robinson said: "It was nice to see the reactions of our staff and service users when we received our certificates." The hospital team is already looking for their next big group challenge to support local causes.
Robinson concluded: "The event helped demonstrate to our service users the positives of engaging with others and having shared interests. The people we support here at Cygnet Hospital Sherwood were able to work alongside staff as equals and enjoy themselves."
