Thousands of vulnerable individuals have accessed mental health support from a facility at Wolverhampton Railway Station since its opening. The Hub, which launched in May 2025, provides one-to-one support, information, and signposting to other services.
Operated by West Midlands Railway (WMR) in partnership with Rethink Mental Illness, the facility is staffed and maintained by the charity. In addition to its daily offerings, The Hub also hosts pop-ups and events for local organisations.
Over 2,000 Visitors in First Year
More than 2,000 people have used the site since it opened, including dozens in crisis who received vital support. Thomas Harty, security and safeguarding manager at WMR, said: "It's been fantastic to work with Rethink to run the Hub over the past year. Wolverhampton is one of our busiest stations in the West Midlands, making it the perfect location to offer support to passengers and local residents. We are so pleased that the Hub has become embedded in the local community, and that so many people have accessed vital resources."
Community Space and Partnerships
Kirsten Rose, service manager at Rethink Mental Illness, added: "Over the past year, The Hub has played a key role in offering a safe space for those who need it. Signposting, guidance, mental health and wellbeing support, social groups, events, and art exhibitions have been utilised by many. It has become a well-known community space with returning groups and services booked in weekly, fortnightly, and monthly. It has been great to establish partnerships with other services, train station staff, security officers, and BTP, who have supported people in accessing The Hub. Happy first birthday to The Hub!"
Carolyn Green, chief nurse for Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: "It's wonderful to see the community connectivity that The Hub is championing. This week it's supporting Mental Health Awareness and continues to grow from strength to strength. Mental ill health is often a taboo subject, but The Hub is challenging that. It's in the heart of our city and its accessibility and vibrancy shines through."
