13 Fruit Packs Recalled Over Salmonella Fears in UK Supermarkets

Salmonella Contamination Triggers Widespread Fruit Recall

Thirteen fruit packs distributed by Prepworld and sold in major UK supermarkets including Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Waitrose, and M&S have been recalled due to Salmonella fears. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) confirmed the recall after routine testing identified Salmonella in apples and kiwis used within the products.

Salmonella is a common bacterial cause of food poisoning, typically found in the gut of animals and occasionally humans. It can be contracted through contaminated food, especially raw meat, eggs, and unpasteurised dairy, as well as via faecal contamination from infected individuals or animals.

Consumer Advice and Next Steps

Consumers who have purchased any of these items should not consume them. The FSA recommends returning the products to the point of sale for a full refund, no receipt required. Symptoms of Salmonella infection include diarrhoea, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and fever, typically appearing 12 to 72 hours after ingestion. Vulnerable groups such as young children, elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk.

Prepworld has apologised and is cooperating fully with the FSA and retailers to remove all affected batches from shelves. The recall affects a total of 13 fruit pack varieties across six supermarket chains, with use-by dates ranging from 23 to 24 June 2026.
