Safety Alert: Unbranded Pushchair with Faulty Brakes Destroyed at Border
Parents have been issued a critical warning regarding a pushchair that could pose a serious risk of injuries due to a malfunctioning braking system. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) released a Product Safety Report today, February 11, highlighting an unbranded baby stroller originating from China.
Details of the Hazardous Pushchair
The product in question is described as a black baby stroller with red brakes, associated with the barcode BOFDB1KXG9. It has been assigned a serious risk level by authorities. According to the OPSS, the import was rejected at the border and subsequently destroyed because the stroller's braking system does not function properly, creating potential dangers.
The risk description states: "The product presents a serious risk of injuries because the braking system does not function properly. The product may move unexpectedly when the brakes are partially engaged, causing potentially hazardous scenarios." Additionally, the product fails to provide users with necessary information to take precautions against these risks.
Regulatory Non-Compliance
This pushchair does not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005 (GPSR). These regulations form the main basis for ensuring consumer goods safety by imposing controls that all products intended for or likely to be used by consumers under normal or reasonably foreseeable conditions must be safe.
As outlined on government and business companion sites, the GPSR sets requirements for traceability and monitoring, obligating manufacturers, own-branders, or importers—collectively termed 'producers'—to comply. The destruction of this stroller underscores the enforcement of these rules to protect public safety.
Parents are urged to remain vigilant and check product safety reports regularly to avoid similar hazardous items. This incident highlights the importance of regulatory oversight in preventing unsafe products from reaching consumers.
