52-Hour Heat Health Alert Issued for Three UK Regions by UKHSA
52-Hour Heat Alert for Three UK Regions by UKHSA

Fresh heat health warnings have been issued for three UK regions over the coming 52 hours, with the government cautioning there is a "greater risk to life" for vulnerable individuals.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) states that yellow warnings apply to the East of England, London, and the South East from Thursday, May 28 at 4pm through to Saturday, May 30 at 8pm.

This indicates health and social care services are likely to experience disruption in the days ahead, including a heightened demand for healthcare services from vulnerable individuals. Indoor spaces face an elevated risk of becoming extremely warm, the UKHSA stated.

The agency has also cautioned that water-related incidents may rise, including dangers from cold-water shock and drowning.

These yellow alerts follow several amber warnings, which are normally issued between June and September, that were put in place last week for the Midlands, along with Eastern and South Eastern England. Those amber warnings were upgraded from yellow on May 22.

Authorities urge residents in affected areas to stay hydrated, check on elderly neighbours, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours. Healthcare providers are advised to prepare for increased demand.
