Liverpool Man's Condition Takes Serious Turn After Thailand Scooter Crash

The girlfriend of a young Liverpool man fighting for his life in a Thailand hospital has shared a heartbreaking update, revealing his condition has taken a significant turn for the worse.

Critical Condition Following Horrific Collision

Zak Forsyth, a 21-year-old from Huyton, Liverpool, was riding a scooter when he collided with a car in Thailand last month, suffering serious and extensive life-threatening injuries. The young man, who does not have travel insurance, has undergone facial reconstruction surgery after multiple bones in his face were shattered, requiring metal plates to be inserted and his jaw wired shut.

At one point, Zak was placed on a ventilator and required a tracheotomy, though he had been breathing independently in recent weeks. His family raced to be by his bedside and have been facing mounting medical bills as doctors work to save his life.

Significant Deterioration in Health Status

In previous updates, Zak's girlfriend Amy Elkin, also 21, described his progress as remarkable, explaining how medication had helped reduce swelling on his brain and turn dangerous blood clots into fluid. However, the latest update shared on the family's fundraising page reveals a serious deterioration.

Amy explained: "Unfortunately, Zak's condition has not improved. Last night he took a significant turn and began displaying very aggressive behaviour. His mental state is currently in a critical condition."

She continued: "While we initially hoped to admit him to a private hospital, the costs are simply beyond what we can afford. This is an incredibly difficult time for our family. Our priority is ensuring Zak's safety and getting him stabilised with the right medical support."

Mounting Medical Bills Create Additional Stress

The family has been struggling with the financial burden of Zak's medical care in Thailand. Amy previously noted that if Zak's condition worsens and surgery becomes necessary, the hospital will demand immediate payment before proceeding.

"This has been one of the most distressing experiences for our family," she said, "with staff standing in his ICU room with a card machine."

Zak remains in intensive care following the crash, and his family continues to appeal for support through their fundraising efforts. Amy emphasized: "We continue to need as much support as possible to help Zak regain strength before we can bring him home to Liverpool. We would be extremely grateful if people could continue sharing the JustGiving page, as we do not know what tomorrow may bring."

The family expressed gratitude for the continued support, prayers, and donations, noting that every contribution helps cover medical bills and ensures Zak receives the urgent care he requires during this critical period.
