Rihanna Perfume Pulled from UK Shelves Due to Banned Chemicals

Rihanna's Rogue perfume has been withdrawn from sale in the United Kingdom after it was found to contain chemicals that are prohibited under cosmetic regulations. The 15ml fragrance failed to meet the requirements of the Cosmetic Regulation, leading to its immediate removal from retail outlets.

Prohibited Ingredients Identified

The product label lists hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde and butylphenyl methylpropional as ingredients. Both of these substances are banned from sale in the UK and the European Union due to significant health concerns.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards has issued a warning, stating that butylphenyl methylpropional, also known as BMHCA, may harm the reproductive system, potentially affect the health of an unborn child, and could cause skin sensitisation.

Consumer Refund Process

Customers who purchased the Rogue perfume with the barcode number 0608940559437 at Savers stores are eligible for a full refund. Shoppers are advised to return the item to their place of purchase to receive their money back promptly.

Previous Recalls Involving Rihanna Fragrances

This incident follows earlier recalls of other Rihanna perfumes. Savers previously removed the Rihanna Kiss 15ml EDP with barcode 0608940572252 and the Rihanna RiRi 15ml EDP with barcode 0608940560389 from shelves. These products were also found to contain the same prohibited chemicals.

Chemical Details and Market Names

Hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde is commonly known as Lyral in the trade market. It was banned in Britain due to its high potential to cause skin allergies. Products containing Lyral have been prohibited from sale on the British market since August 23, 2019.

Butylphenyl methylpropional is referred to as Lilial in the industry. It was banned because it is classified as a reprotoxic substance, meaning it is suspected of harming the reproductive system and could pose risks to an unborn child.

Consumers are urged to check their perfume purchases and take appropriate action if they own any of the affected products to ensure their safety and compliance with health regulations.
