Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie Face Exclusion from Key Royal Events
King Charles is said to believe that welcoming Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie to future public events might not be in the best interest of the Royal Family's image. There is currently no expectation that the two princesses will attend significant occasions such as Commonwealth Day or the Trooping the Colour ceremony in June.
Shifting Circumstances for the York Princesses
Less than three months ago, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie celebrated Christmas at Sandringham alongside the rest of the Royal Family. However, following their father Prince Andrew's arrest, their mother Sarah Ferguson's departure from the UK, and the emergence of additional damaging details regarding their family's ties with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the situation appears to have changed dramatically.
A recent report indicates that His Majesty the King has begun to reconsider the inclusion of the two princesses in forthcoming public engagements, fearing potential repercussions for the monarchy's reputation. Although Prince Andrew has consistently denied all allegations against him, and the King initially seemed to view the princesses as innocent of any misconduct, attitudes are reportedly shifting behind closed doors.
Names Appear in Epstein Investigation Files
In the latest set of documents linked to the Epstein investigation, both Beatrice and Eugenie's names appear frequently, with Eugenie's mentioned over 300 times. While the mere presence of a name in such extensive files does not constitute evidence of wrongdoing, in the world of royalty, appearances are considered paramount.
Several significant events on the royal calendar in the coming months will serve as a barometer for the two princesses' future status within the Royal Family. These include:
- The Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey
- The Easter Sunday service at St George's Chapel in Windsor
- Any of the three Royal Garden Parties planned for May
- The customary carriage procession at Royal Ascot in June
Royal Observers Predict Limited Participation
Should Beatrice and Eugenie appear at any of these occasions, it would signal that they remain regarded as untainted by the controversies surrounding their parents. However, according to royal observers, the indications are not promising.
One royal source informed The i newspaper that while Beatrice, 37, and Eugenie, 35, might attend Royal Ascot in a personal capacity, they were unlikely to participate in the traditional carriage procession before each racing day. The source stated: "They might attend the races among the crowd but they can't be seen in the royal carriage procession with all this going on."
There is currently no expectation that either princess will attend the Commonwealth Day service on March 9 or the Trooping the Colour ceremony in June.
William and Catherine Adopt Cautious Approach
Royal biographer Russell Myers noted that although Prince William had previously invited his cousins to assist him and his wife Catherine in hosting a garden party at Buckingham Palace, it now appears almost inevitable that he will follow his father's example this summer. Myers explained: "He can't be seen to be acting out of turn against the King, and there is no indication that he wants to."
As reported by the Mail on Sunday, the Prince and Princess of Wales are now resolved to keep Beatrice and Eugenie "at arm's length" at least "for the rest of the year." The Sunday Times has stated that William and Catherine have been "careful" to avoid close proximity with the princesses since as far back as Christmas Day at Sandringham.
Royal biographer Andrew Lownie, whose bestselling book contributed to the challenges facing the House of York, informed People magazine that while the King retains sentimental fondness for his nieces, William is eager to resolve the entire matter, which includes adopting a "tougher" stance toward Beatrice and Eugenie.
The Mirror has reached out to both Buckingham Palace and representatives for Princess Beatrice and Eugenie regarding this story but has not yet received a response.
