Final £200 Household Support Fund Payments Distributed by DWP
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is currently administering the final round of Household Support Fund payments, providing £200 to eligible claimants before the end of March. This initiative, originally established by the former Conservative government and extended by Labour until March 31, offers crucial financial assistance to individuals receiving means-tested benefits.
Eligibility Criteria and Application Process
To qualify for the £200 payment, applicants must be recipients of income-related benefits such as Universal Credit, Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), or Housing Benefit. Additionally, they must reside in their local authority area as their primary and permanent address. Local councils, including Islington Council which received £3,909,440.47 for the 2025-2026 period, are responsible for verifying eligibility through DWP systems.
Important Note: Individuals who do not receive these specified benefits are advised not to apply, as applications will be cross-checked with official records. Successful applicants will receive the one-time £200 support, with councils potentially referring them to other local services for further assistance.
Transition to New Funding Mechanisms
As the Household Support Fund concludes on March 31, England will transition to the Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF) starting April 1. Local authorities are required to make CRF applications publicly available by this date and transparently report on fund usage. Some councils have already implemented cash-first approaches, distributing support via Post Office cash vouchers or Pay-by-Text platforms for ATM withdrawals.
This funding extension also applies to Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, ensuring nationwide support for vulnerable households during ongoing cost-of-living challenges.
