The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that state pensioners will receive an unexpected payment of £965 later this month, with changes to payment dates due to the May bank holiday.
Bank Holiday Payment Adjustments
The DWP does not issue payments on bank holidays, meaning that some pensioners will see their payments arrive at unusual times. The bank holiday on Monday, May 25, has prompted the DWP to bring forward payments to the nearest working day, which will be Friday, May 22.
This adjustment affects households that would normally receive their payment on the bank holiday itself. Those whose usual payment dates fall outside of the bank holiday will not be affected and should receive their cash as usual.
Impact on Benefit Claimants
Certain households on DWP benefits will also be impacted by the change. Claimants will get their money at different times if their usual payment date is due to fall on the bank holiday. It is important for those affected to be aware of when their money will arrive, as they may need to budget to ensure their cash lasts longer.
Similar changes were made for the early May bank holiday. The DWP advises all recipients to check their payment schedules and plan accordingly.
